Goodreads: What should have been the best day in Diana Wagnor's twenty-nine years easily turns into the worst when her job is downsized, she discovers her fiancé in bed with her best friend, and she watches her cherished grandmother's house burn to the ground.
Clearly it's time to start over and get out of Topeka, Kansas, where she's spent her whole life. But what should she do? And how does she ever trust herself in another relationship when her one indisputable skill seems to be picking the wrong man?
Diana finds her answers at the cottage next door to the beach house with the help of a tall, sculptured, soft-spoken Californian, and a heart-shaped piece of sea glass.
Kritters Thoughts: I am a Georgia Bockoven fan and I love this series, but this novella didn't live up to the previous books and I have reasons.
I love Bockoven's writing and each book just glides from page to page and I think packing in her story in a novella just didn't work. I don't think it gave her the time to build the characters and it felt like this book was like listening to a podcast on high speed, I wish I could linger and get into this character and it just was moving at a too fast pace.
As much as I wanted to get more into the story, I didn't love this main character. I couldn't connect with her or care and I was just not interested in finding out the things that lead her to this cottage.
I am excited to read the next full novel in the series and will be reviewing it tomorrow. I am intrigued to find out if you need this novella to know what happens in the next book which is why I made sure I read it before reading the next book. I will answer these questions tomorrow.
Rating: definitely a good read, but can't read two in a row
