Goodreads:  Naomi Bowes lost her innocence the night she followed her father into the woods. In freeing the girl trapped in the root cellar, Naomi revealed the horrible extent of her father’s crimes and made him infamous.

Now a successful photographer living under the name Naomi Carson, she has found a place that calls to her, thousands of miles away from everything she’s ever known. Naomi wants to embrace the solitude, but the residents of Sunrise Cove keep forcing her to open up—especially the determined Xander Keaton.

Naomi can feel her defenses failing, and knows that the connection her new life offers is something she’s always secretly craved. But as she’s learned time and again, her past is never more than a nightmare away.

Kritters Thoughts:  A young girl follows her dad into the woods behind their home in hopes to find a clue as to her upcoming birthday gift, instead she finds a young girl who has been chained in a cellar and her father has been abusing.  There are a few chapters at this age and then it jumps four years into the future and then it jumps another 16 years to a contemporary Naomi as she is still trying to put the pieces of her life back together.

What a fantastic read.  Nora Roberts does a genius mix of mystery, who dun it with a little romance on the side.

Naomi was a fantastic character.  She felt real and authentic and I could feel how the events of her childhood were still really affecting her as an adult.  I loved how Roberts gave you the events of her childhood and then the first jump took her into her teen years and a glimpse into how she was progressing and then the meat of the story was her life as an adult.

Of course with Nora Roberts there was romance and at times it felt a bit much, but it still didn't take away too much from the main plot of the story.  I mentally ranked this alongside other recent romances and I was so glad that this one had a full and fantastic plot at the foundation.

Although I figured out the culprit maybe on the early side, it didn't completely ruin the book for me.  I wish a little bit that I hadn't, but its ok!  I was still satisfied with the story in the end.

A Nora Roberts stand alone which makes me happy!  After reading this book I went to her site and saw that she releases about one a year that is a stand alone, so I may be doing a Nora Roberts stand alone binge!

Rating: definitely a good read, but can't read two in row
