Goodreads:  It is the phone call every person lives in fear of receiving. There has been an accident and your loved one is paralyzed. A spinal cord injury is the single most devastating and life altering event. Based on a true story, Michael and Donna were young, successful, in love and planning their life together. That life was radically changed by a tragic car accident. Now a wheelchair user as a quadriplegic, with limited movement, constant infections and multiple surgeries, doctors projected Michael's best case life expectancy to be five years. See how this young man battles through his injury and spends his five years making a lasting impact on hundreds of people. It will make you realize what can be accomplished when a person does not let circumstances dictate their life.

Kritters Thoughts:  The author starts this book giving you the history of two individuals who eventually meet up and start a relationship, just as this relationship is about to start a real foundation, a tragic accident occurs that change both lives forever.

The book is very character centered.  The setting changed a little and impacted the story, but it was the characters and the boy and the girl who drive the story from beginning to end.  They weave in and out of each other's lives and impact each other's future.  I absolutely adored the big Italian family - sometimes I wish I had a bigger immediate family, although my sister is fantastic, our holidays are not rambunctious  they are rather quiet (which is nice also!).

What I loved most about this book is it made me think how many different decisions or paths lead me to the point where I am now with a husband, job, dog, blog and more.  As well, what more decisions do I have to make that could now alter both my life and the hubs' life.  It is all so interesting if you made a left turn instead of a right turn one day, your life could be somewhere completely different and would it be better, worse or just different.  A quick read, but will stay with me for awhile.

Rating: absolutely loved it and want a sequel

  2. Thank you for your review and recommendation.

The main message is: bad things happen to good people; but the ones that keep moving forward are the ones that get ahead. Even my nephew Nick Heeb's art work on the cover suggests that those who keep moving onward also move upward.

We could wallow in self-pity and remain chained to our own proverbial wheelchairs or we could find and follow some positive role models. When you are going through hell, don't stop and pick out a summer home.

It is also a study into family dynamics; where love and courage can conquer fear and grief. It has a very, "He ain't heavy, he's my brother" feeling to the story.

It is a story about the one who not only made his way through the wilderness but also grew stronger and wiser because of the journey. The one who carved sparks of divinity out of chaos and confusion.
    Hope you enjoy it.
