Yesterday, I reviewed the second book in the Sydney Rye and another good one! So today, I was given the great opportunity to interview the author Emily Kimelman. Here it goes . . .
1. What do you find yourself rambling about?
I will go on and on about trips I want to take. I ramble about my fantasy of a "family compound" where I will live with all people I love, fainting goats, chickens, donkeys, Icelandic horses, Great Danes, and Bull Mastiffs. Oh, and don't get me started on the evolution of the mystery novel and Charles Darwin unless you have some time on your hands.
2. When looking at your female characters, do you put a piece of your personality into the characters?
I think there is a lot of my personality in Sydney Rye, especially her sense of humor. But Sydney can kick serious butt and I am a total klutz. Sydney is much harder than me. I'm a big softie and faced with the challenges she's gone through I would probably curl up into a ball and cry for my mother.
3. If you could put your book in any one person's hands, who would it be?
Anyone who is about to spend a couple of hours on the beach.
4. What is your favorite part of the writing process?
The beginning when everything seems possible. I love writing my first draft when nothing can go wrong as long as I'm getting it down on paper.
5. Where is your perfect writing spot?
Anywhere that I can look up from my screen I see water, preferably frozen.
6. What is next on your plate?
I'm working on a couple of different ideas (my favorite part!). There is another Sydney Rye in the works and a new series that is tickling my brain. My husband and I are going to India for the next couple of months and I'm sure that all of the new sites, sounds, and flavors will inspire me. I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if Sydney ended up on an adventure in Mumbai or Goa.
Thank you so much to Emily for answering some questions. I completely agree with the book on the beach - best place to read!
