Goodreads: The Silverstein family is coming together in Great Neck, Long Island, for the nuptials of the youngest daughter. Always considered the favorite—and the object of much envy and resentment—Angelica has planned a fairy tale wedding to her fiancé, a former fighter pilot. But there are storm clouds on the horizon.
Gretchen, Angelica’s sister, is dealing with a failed marriage and her moody teenage daughter Justine. One brother is a callous businessman while the other is struggling with his search for love and a career. Her mother is in a battle of wills with the wedding planner, while her father, a recovering alcoholic, struggles to confront his ex-wife’s lavish new life in the Long Island manor of her dreams. And her grandmother Lenore has decided it’s high time to take charge and set her grandchildren on their proper paths.
Then an impulsive act by Justine puts the entire wedding at risk and brings the simmering family tensions to the boiling point. Before vows are exchanged, this day will change more than one life forever…
Kritters Thoughts: A book with true characters within a crazy family that is on high alert because it is a wedding where emotions are at the extreme and I loved every minute of it. Some books have too much crazy within their characters, but this family of characters were spot on they made me shake my head and laugh on the same page. With four generations all under the same roof the drama was bound to happen and it does!
Angelica is the bride and she is the youngest of four, so birth order and sibling rivalry were at the forefront of the issues that this family is dealing with. Her older siblings are each dealing with their own messes within their own family units. Thankfully, the author switches each chapter to focus on a different family member while at the same time moving the overall story line forward, although the character doesn't have their own voice but there is a narrator, it worked.
I would definitely recommend this to a reader who is looking for a little family drama on a big day. I just had a little confusion with who was of what generation, but nothing a little sticky note couldn't fix.
