Goodreads: You can't run away from yourself.
Catherine Elbert has never been good at making decisions, whether it was choosing an ice cream flavor as a small child, or figuring out what she wanted to be when she grew up. The only thing Catherine knew for sure was there had to be more to life than being stuck on her family’s farm in Wisconsin.
While watching a PBS travel show, Catherine becomes entranced by Portland, Maine. The ocean. The lobsters. The rugged coast. Nothing could be more different from the flat, nondescript farmlands of Burkesville. Despite her parents threatening to disown her and her brothers taking bets on how many days until she comes home, Catherine settles on Peaks Island, off the coast of Portland.
She is finally free.
Or so she thought.
Kritters Thoughts: The second in the Bibliophile series, this book centers on Catherine from the book club, but the book starts way back in her childhood. The reader meets Catherine as a child and the book follows her story as she moves around trying to find her real self. Catherine had quite the negative childhood and quite the adventures as an adult; it was a ton of fun to follow her on her journey. It almost made me want to uproot and move!
I adored the characters and places that she ended up with and in. Each city had its own vibe and helped mold her into the adult that she ended up becoming. Without spoiling the ending, I am quite satisfied with her last move and I think she made the most of the whole situation by working to find her true passion.
The one thing that fell short for me was the wait for her to join the book club and how little we read of the book club in the book. I wanted to see more of the book club through her eyes.
Definitely a great concept to have a series about a book club and with each book centered around a different member of the club - genius!
Rating: absolutely loved it and want a sequel
