Goodreads: After four years in Manhattan, slaving away as the under-appreciated apprentice to the brilliant but ruthless “King of Broadway”, Scarlett Savoy is finally on her way to becoming a Broadway producer in her own right. But then, a shocking suicide turns Broadway on its head. Scarlett finds herself at the center of the storm as everything she thought she knew about the business of Broadway begins to unravel. A chance meeting with an influential gossip columnist sparks romance – but can he be trusted? Scarlett is forced to decide to what lengths she’ll go, who she’s willing to become, and what she’ll sacrifice, to achieve her Broadway dreams.Kritters Thoughts: After taking a trip to New York City in June for Book Expo America, it was quite fitting to read this book and see the behind the scenes look at the Broadway world. So often a book that takes you behind the scenes centers around the cast and crew, but this book takes you into the producer's offices and the reader comes to realize what must happen financially before a show can get in a theatre.
From the beginning, I was rooting for Scarlett and was hoping that she would find her place on Broadway as a producer. The twists and turns were spot on and not over the top, I loved the backstage backstabbing and the face that producers had to put on in the front of the house. The characters in this book made the story, I could picture them walking around New York City and working on the shows, the author made them feel real.
A book that I would recommend to readers of many genres, especially to those who love a story where you know the setting whether you have been there or not. I would say this is the perfect read for fans of the Broadway world, but I think it may be the most obvious statement!
Rating: absolutely loved it and want a sequel
